Dr. D. Y. Patil was conferred with the prestigious ‘Padmashree’ in the year 1991 by the Government of India in recognition for his yeoman services in the field of education. He has to his credit many national and international distinctions and awards. Indeed, his metamorphosis from a farmer, to a politician, to an educationist and finally into a pious philosopher cum leader of educational revolution, is a fascinating story.
